The Data Protection Act:
Under the Data Protection Act, we have a legal duty to protect any personal information we collect from you. We use leading technologies and encryption software to safeguard our data, and strict security standards to prevent any unauthorised access to it. We do not pass on your details to any third party or government department unless you give us permission to do so.
Information Gathered:
Following registration certain specified details about your organisation will be made publicly available on the CHaSPI website. These details comprise the registered name(s) of your organisation and, once you have completed CHaSPI, the overall results and other specified details. For a list of the specified details click here .
Apart from the freely available details specified above, access to other information is confined to:
- the discretion of two nominated people within each individual registered organisation;
- Enable Infomatrix Ltd and Greenstreet Berman, who have access to information on the CHaSPI database for administration purposes only.
Information contained in CHaSPI is stored on a database. The information it contains remains the property of the organisation that has provided it. All information is collected exclusively for the creation and purpose of CHaSPI. The rationale for the CHaSPI database is to enable results to be calculated and details to be made available as described above. Participants may de-register and remove their information and results from CHaSPI.
The operators of the website are, as part of their administrative function, able to access all entries for the purpose of operating the website and validating results. However, any data that does not enter the public domain is the property of the registered company, and cannot be passed on to other parties without their permission.
Use of Information:
Completion and use of the Corporate Health and Safety Performance Index (CHaSPI) is voluntary.
CHaSPI is not designed or intended to be an enforcement tool. HSE has no plans for CHaSPI in itself to lead to the instigation of an investigation. In the event of an incident that leads to an investigation by HSE or another regulator/enforcing authority, then information from the CHaSPI database may be used on rare occasions as supporting information. However, information from CHaSPI will not provide core information for enforcement action.

Cookies:
Cookies are pieces of data created when you visit some websites, and stored in the cookie directory of your computer. Two cookies are created when you visit HSE’s website
Our first cookie stores a random number on your computer to help us count the number of times users return to our site. The second cookie is part of a project to share banner advertising for government campaigns and services across government websites. It stores a random number to ensure that you do not always see the same advert and it enables us to count the number of people viewing a web page or a campaign. This cookie is checked when you visit other government websites involved in the same project.
Both cookies are stored in the cookie directory of your hard drive, and do not expire at the end of your session.
The cookies do not contain any personal information about you, and they cannot be used to identify an individual user.
You can set your browser not to accept cookies.

Log files allow us to record visitors' use of the site. We analyse log file information from all our visitors and use it to make changes to the layout of the site and to the information in it, based on the way that visitors move around it.
Log files do not contain any personal information and they are not used to identify any individual patterns of use of the site.
